Busan City to Host the 70th Memorial Day Ceremony

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) will hold the 70th Memorial Day Ceremony at 9:55 a.m. on June 6 at the Memorial Tower in Central Park, to honor the sacrifice and contributions of the nation’s patriots and fallen heroes.

The event will be attended by over 600 participants, including national merit recipients and their families, Mayor Park Heong-joon, Busan City Council Chair Ahn Sung-min, Superintendent of Education Kim Seok-jun, and other key dignitaries.

Ceremony Highlights

The ceremony will begin with a nationwide one-minute silent tribute at 10:00 a.m., signaled by sirens.

The program will proceed as follows:

• ●National Ceremony

• ●Floral Tribute and Incense Offering

• ●Memorial Address by Mayor Park

• ●Recitation of a Memorial Poem by a soldier of the 53rd Division

• ●Memorial performance by the Busan City Arts Troupe

• ●Group singing of the national remembrance song, “Hyeonchung-ui Norae”

• ●Tour of the Spirit Hall by the mayor and VIPs

Mayor Park will deliver a speech emphasizing that:

“Our ordinary lives are built upon the sweat, dedication, and sacrifice of others. On this 70th Memorial Day, let us reflect deeply on this truth. Let us honor their sacrifice by building a more prosperous nation rooted in democracy and the rule of law—and ensure Busan rises as a global hub city.”

He will also state:

“We will do our utmost to establish a society where honoring veterans is an everyday value. May the noble spirit of the patriots and fallen heroes who gave their lives for our country continue to shine brightly upon this land.”

National Moment of Remembrance & Flag-Lowering Campaign

The City urges citizens to participate in the following:

• ●At 10:00 a.m. on June 6, sirens will sound for one minute nationwide. Citizens are encouraged to pause their activities and observe a moment of silence with solemn respect.

• ●Flag-lowering campaign: Households and workplaces are asked to fly the national flag at half-mast in commemoration.
