Busan Metropolitan City to Accept Nominations for the 68th Busan Metropolitan City Culture Awards

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it is now accepting nominations for the 68th Busan Metropolitan City Culture Awards through July 25.

The Busan Metropolitan City Culture Awards were established to discover and honor cultural and artistic figures who have contributed to the promotion of culture and arts and to the development of Busan’s regional identity and prestige.

Since its inception in 1957, the award has been given annually to individuals who have made outstanding contributions to the promotion of regional culture and the enhancement of civic cultural awareness in fields such as science, literature, art, music, photography, crafts, and sports.

A total of 420 individuals have been honored to date, making this the most prestigious cultural award in the region.

Notable past recipients include:

• ●Dr. Woo Jang-choon in the field of science (1957)

• ●Writer Kim Jeong-han in the field of literature (1959)

• ●Dr. Jang Gi-ryeo in the field of community development (1980)

Awards will be presented in the following 10 categories, with one winner per category:

• 1.Humanities

• 2.Natural Sciences

• 3.Literature

• 4.Performing Arts

• 5.Visual Arts

• 6.Traditional Arts

• 7.Popular Arts

• 8.Spatial Arts

• 9.Sports

• 10.Media and Publishing

Final award recipients will be selected through practical and final screenings in September and mid-October, with the award ceremony scheduled for late October. Awardees will receive the Mayor’s Award of Busan Metropolitan City.

Nominees must be cultural and artistic figures who, regardless of their place of residence, have made outstanding contributions to the development of Busan’s local culture through creativity in their field.

Nominators may include:

• ●Heads of relevant organizations in each field

• ●University presidents and deans

• ●District mayors and county heads

• ●Heads of central administrative agencies located in Busan

• ●Private citizens aged 18 or older with 20 or more co-signatures

Applications must be submitted via registered mail or in person and must arrive by the deadline.

Jo Yoo-jang, Director of the Culture Bureau, stated,
