Classic Busan to Present Shining Wave on Tour in Seoul for the Korea Ballet Festival

Classic Busan announced that Shining Wave will be presented as the final performance of the 2025 Busan Ballet Season at the CJ Towol Theater, Seoul Arts Center, on Wednesday, June 4 at 7:30 PM.

The production Shining Wave was selected as part of the 2024–2025 Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism Regional Representative Arts Organization Support Program. The upcoming performance at the Seoul Arts Center marks its first appearance on a major stage of the Korea Ballet Festival.

About the Performance

Shining Wave is the debut work of the Busan Opera House Ballet Company. The performance is based on a lyrical narrative poem by poet Jung Young, telling a touching story of a girl and a whale set against the backdrop of Busan's sea.

Directed by the company’s artistic director Kim Joo-won, the original ballet weaves together eight poems to create a cinematic and emotional narrative. The main characters—girl, whale, sea spirit, and whale hunters—depict a conflict between man and nature, delivering an immersive and moving performance.

The Korea Ballet Festival, one of the premier ballet festivals in the country, began in 2011. It has presented 171 works across 233 performances, attracting over 170,000 spectators. Since 2022 and 2024, Busan has also hosted the Korea Ballet Festival in Busan Forum, continuing its active engagement.

Reproduction and Artistic Enhancement

The 2025 production of Shining Wave, the representative repertoire of the Busan Opera House Ballet Company, has been re-created with expanded duration and artistic depth:

Recent Performance and Reception
