Busan Metropolitan City announced that it was selected for two projects in the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy’s 2025 Specialized Root Industry Complex Designation and Support Program:

• 1.“Busan Textile Surface Processing Specialized Complex Support Project”

• 2.“IoT-Based Eco-Friendly Surface Treatment Smart Platform Construction Project.”

The root industry refers to the fundamental and innovation-driven manufacturing sectors using key processing technologies such as casting, mold-making, welding, plastic injection, pressing, precision machining, and robotics. These industries serve as the backbone and growth engine of the manufacturing sector.

The Specialized Root Industry Complex Designation and Support Program aims to promote the sustainable growth of designated root industry clusters by supporting shared infrastructure and collaborative innovation activities in areas such as digitalization, eco-friendliness, industrial collaboration, and workforce development.

1. Leading-Type: Busan Textile Surface Processing Specialized Complex

The Busan Textile Surface Processing Specialized Complex Support Project was selected in the Leading-Type category. A total budget of KRW 44.4 billion will be invested over three years (2025–2027) to convert the Busan Textile Dyeing and Processing Specialized Complex into the Busan MADE (Mobility, Automotive, Digital, Eco) Mobility Textile Material Specialized Complex.

The project is led by the Busan Fashion Color Industry Cooperative with participation from the Busan Textile Materials Promotion Center.

Key components include:

• ●Establishing a joint research lab for mobility textile product development

• ●Supporting joint commercialization for future mobility textile products

• ●Creating a cluster network and activating exchanges through the Busan Textile Surface Treatment Industry Council

• ●Nurturing textile materials specialists

• ●Implementing digital twin systems, building and operating energy platforms, replacing heat supply systems, and installing waste heat recycling systems

2. General-Type: IoT-Based Eco-Friendly Surface Treatment Smart Platform

The IoT-Based Eco-Friendly Surface Treatment Smart Platform Construction Project was selected in the General-Type category. A budget of KRW 1.7 billion will be invested in 2025 to advance the Jangrim Surface Treatment Specialized Complex.

This project will establish:

• ●A smart wastewater management system that monitors real-time metrics like discharge flow using IoT

• ●The “Eco-Tech Vision Room” for exhibition and education

• ●An integrated digital wastewater platform that enhances reliability and stability through data-driven processing

Led by the Busan Jangrim Surface Treatment Cooperative, the platform will:

• ●Improve the image of the surface treatment industry

• ●Promote eco-friendly practices and cutting-edge wastewater treatment technologies

• ●Provide an advanced exhibition-convention space for technical exchange, academic-industry cooperation, and employee training
