Busan City to Host the First Ever “Busan Sea Library” This June!

Busan City announced that it will hold the Busan Sea Library for the first time together with the Busan Cultural Foundation from Saturday, June 14 to Sunday, June 29, 2025, every Saturday and Sunday at Millak Waterside Park in Suyeong-gu.

The event will be held from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. each weekend during this period.

This special outdoor library event blends reading and art with Busan’s ocean as its backdrop. In partnership with Busan’s public libraries, bookstores, publishers, and cultural institutions, it will present various reading experiences and cultural programs, promoting a lifestyle enriched by books.

Reading spaces where the sea and books meet

Reading spaces will be created under seven main themes such as Dawn, Waves, Light, and Citizens' Bookshelves in collaboration with the Busan Library. These themed Book Curation Zones will display over 1,000 books arranged by keywords such as sunrise, love, travel, and Busan—freely open to the public.

At the main Reading Zone, participants can comfortably read while enjoying views of Gwangandaegyo Bridge and the open sea. Bean bags, tables, and chairs will be provided for free use.

In cooperation with Suyeong-gu, a unique reading space called the Book Tent Zone (Milsoo Café) will allow participants to enjoy books inside camping tents.

• ●Pet-Friendly Zone (Book-Mung Zone): Offers reading kits in a dog-friendly space

• ●Copying Zone: Participants can hand-copy inspirational passages

Reading Culture Playground Where the Sea and Books Unite

The Sea Library's Reading Culture Playground will serve as a multifaceted cultural space combining books, arts, and music.

In Book Talk City, popular authors favored by younger audiences such as Cheon Seon-ran, Ko Seon-kyeong, and Sung Hae-na will hold talk sessions and meet readers.

Programs will also include sensory reading for children and guardians, as well as healing meditation sessions using yoga and singing bowls.

In collaboration with local merchants near Millak Waterside Park, family-friendly programs such as Read Brew (coffee and book talk sessions), Car Boot Book Sales, and flea markets like Flea Market and Nuri Market will also take place.

Colorful nighttime performances such as jazz, classical music, and b-boy dance shows—co-hosted with Suyeong-gu—will continue into the evening.

(B)-Book Spots Participating Across the Region

The (B)-Book Spot will feature 52 booths operated by local bookstores, libraries, and publishers. These spaces will introduce reading clubs, independent publications, and hands-on activities. All participating institutions are selected through a prior application and screening process and receive official certification from Busan Sea Library along with opportunities for joint promotions and events.

Citizen-led reading programs will also be available, including:

All programs are free of charge and open for on-site participation, though some require advance registration.
