Busan City’s Hometown Love Donation Event Surpasses 500 Million KRW — Doubling Prize Recipients from 1,000 to 2,000!

Mayor Park Heong-joon of Busan announced that the city’s mega “Prize Bomb Donation Event”, launched on May 1, successfully attracted over 5,000 donors and raised 500 million KRW in just one month.

As of May 28, the campaign had recorded over 5,200 donation cases, totaling 520 million KRW in contributions made to Busan Metropolitan City through the official portal.

To show appreciation for this enthusiastic participation, Busan City will expand its prize pool from 1,000 to 2,000 donors.

Initially, prizes were intended for up to 1,000 donors among the first 5,000 participants. Now, up to 2,000 donors among the first 10,000 will receive bonus gifts.

The highlight prizes, such as five-star hotel vouchers in Haeundae usable during the peak summer season, will be awarded to 10 selected participants—doubling the previous allocation of 5.

The event’s overwhelming popularity is attributed to attractive gifts like hotel stays, pork belly, and nakgopsae, all of which showcase Busan’s regional specialties.

To ensure gift quality, Busan City is conducting a 3rd round of supplier selections in 2025.

In terms of popularity, the most selected 2025 return gifts are:

• 1.Pork belly and shoulder – 1,799 selections

• 2.Fish cakes – 928

• 3.Salty tomatoes – 756

• 4.Rice – 758

• 5.Nakgopsae – 573

• 6.Dongbaekjeon (local currency) – 536

• 7.Mackerel – 477

• 8.Coffee – 285

• 9.Others – 205

Notably, nakgopsae was newly introduced in May and is quickly becoming one of the most popular choices.

Salty tomatoes, introduced in March, saw the highest monthly selection rate in March and April.

During the event period, donors contributing at least 100,000 KRW are eligible for:

• ●Two basic benefits:
  ➊ 100% income tax deduction up to 100,000 KRW
  ➋ 30% value return gift based on donation amount

• ●Three bonus prizes:
  ➊ For donation number multiples of 1,000 (e.g., 1000, 2000…10,000): Five-star hotel voucher for up to 10 winners
  ➋ For multiples of 10 (e.g., 10, 20, 30…10,000): Pork belly, Nakgopsae, or Star Sand cookies (winner's choice), up to 990 winners
  ➌ For multiples of 10, 15, or 10,000: Coffee coupon or 10,000 KRW Dongbaekjeon credit for up to 1,000 winners

The final prize results for the 2,000 winners will be announced on July 10 via the Busan City Hometown Love Donation website and through individual SMS.

The return gifts are supplied by 48 local companies in Busan and include 110 product options. Donations can be made via the official online portal “Hometown Love eum” and gift selections can be made at Busan City Hall’s dedicated return gift mall.

The event runs through June 30. Those who join and donate a minimum of 100,000 KRW to “Busan Metropolitan City Hall” through the official portal are automatically entered.

Additionally, Busan is promoting mutual donations with Yeongcheon City, which suffered damage from wildfires, and encouraging staff donations to support other wildfire-affected regions as well.

Cho Young-tae, Director of the Administrative Affairs Bureau of Busan, stated,

“Since 2023, donations made to Busan City Hall have exceeded 1.4 billion KRW.
We will continue to expand projects that support vulnerable groups and community welfare in return for the generous donations received out of love for Busan.”
