Busan Metropolitan City Holds the 2025 Launch Ceremony for the “Visiting Love Medicine Hands” Program for the Underprivileged

Busan Metropolitan City Mayor Park Heong-joon announced that the city will host the 2025 Launch Ceremony of the “Visiting Love Medicine Hands” Program at 8:00 PM on May 29 in the Grand Conference Room of City Hall.

The “Love Medicine Hands” program is a volunteer service where professional pharmacists visit vulnerable households, such as seniors living alone, to offer medication guidance and emotional support through conversation.

Since its pilot launch in 2017, the program has been jointly promoted each year by the City of Busan, the Busan Pharmaceutical Association (led by President Byun Jeong-seok), and the project headquarters (headed by Choi Bok-geun). This year marks its 9th iteration.

During the launch ceremony, 40 pharmacists participating in the 2025 program will be appointed as honorary advisors, and the event will include explanations of the project’s implementation plan and the procedures for visiting beneficiaries.

Consultation logs, promotional materials, and other essential documents will also be distributed on-site.

The honorary advisors will form teams of two and visit 80 elderly individuals with chronic conditions who are taking multiple medications. Over the course of three months, each team will conduct three in-person visits and two phone consultations.

The consultations will include medication adherence checks, education on the safe use of medicines, and the provision of nutritional supplements.

To ensure the smooth operation of the program, the City held two pre-meetings on April 9 and May 8 with the Pharmaceutical Association and senior welfare facility staff to coordinate on beneficiary selection and visit procedures.

Lee So-ra, Director of the Citizens' Health Bureau of Busan Metropolitan City, stated,

“We sincerely thank all participating pharmacists for their warmhearted dedication to improving the health and quality of life of our community’s vulnerable members. We will continue to expand policies that foster a safe medication environment.”
