Busan Metropolitan City Public Transportation Citizen Fund Donates Transportation Cards Worth KRW 300 Million to Support Underprivileged Youth

Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will hold a donation ceremony at 3:00 p.m. today (May 23) in the Mayor's Protocol Room at Busan Metropolitan City Hall, in collaboration with the Busan Metropolitan City Public Transportation Citizen Fund (Chair Bae Sang-hoon), to support underprivileged youth in the Busan region.

Mayor Park Heong-joon and Chair Bae Sang-hoon of the Busan Metropolitan City Public Transportation Citizen Fund are scheduled to attend the ceremony.

At the event, the Busan Metropolitan City Public Transportation Citizen Fund will donate transportation cards worth a total of KRW 300 million. Each card is pre-loaded with KRW 100,000.

The transportation cards will be distributed on a one-to-one basis to 3,000 underprivileged youths, including ▲ high school seniors who are recipients of the Basic Livelihood Security Program and ▲ out-of-school youth preparing for the high school equivalency exam.

The cards can be conveniently used not only for buses and the metro but also at affiliated credit card merchants such as convenience stores, supermarkets, cafés, and movie theaters.

This initiative aims to promote the use of public transportation among youth while encouraging both academic and leisure activities, thereby supporting their healthy growth and aspirations.

Meanwhile, the Busan Metropolitan City Public Transportation Citizen Fund has been actively engaged in various social contribution programs such as the “Big Back: Busan Public Transportation Fare Support” and “Marine Bus Operations Support.” Since 2019, the fund has donated transportation cards worth KRW 300 million annually to support underprivileged youth.

Mayor Park Heong-joon expressed his hope that “this support will be a meaningful gift that allows our youth to experience the warmth of Busan and move toward independence,” adding that “we will continue to work together with various institutions to understand and properly support the challenges faced by our youth so that they may grow into healthy members of society.”
