Busan Public Transportation Citizen Fund Donates KRW 300 Million in Transit Cards to Support Youth from Vulnerable Groups

The Busan Metropolitan City Government (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will hold a transit card donation ceremony at 3:00 p.m. today (May 23) in the City Hall Protocol Room, in partnership with the Busan Public Transportation Citizen Fund (Chairman Bae Sang-hoon), to support local youth from vulnerable groups.

Attending the ceremony will be Mayor Park Heong-joon, Chairman Bae Sang-hoon, and others.

The Busan Public Transportation Citizen Fund will donate transit cards worth a total of KRW 300 million. Each card is preloaded with KRW 100,000.

These cards will be distributed to 3,000 young people from vulnerable backgrounds, including high school seniors on basic livelihood assistance and out-of-school youth preparing for the GED exam, with one card per person.

The youth can use the cards not only for buses and subways, but also at credit card-affiliated locations such as convenience stores, supermarkets, cafés, and movie theaters.

This initiative aims to facilitate access to public transportation for youth while encouraging their academic and leisure activities, thereby promoting their healthy development and supporting their dreams.

Meanwhile, the Busan Public Transportation Citizen Fund has been conducting various social contribution activities, such as the “Busan Public Transportation Fare Big Back” and support for the “Marine Bus,” and has provided KRW 300 million worth of transit cards annually to vulnerable youth since 2019.

Mayor Park is expected to state,
“We hope this support will be a meaningful gift that allows youth to feel the warmth of Busan and move toward self-reliance,” and
“We will continue working closely with various institutions to understand the challenges youth face and provide the support they truly need.”
