Busan Unifies Foreign Resident Counseling Lines—Now One Number for All Inquiries

The Busan Metropolitan City Government (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced the official launch of the “Working Council for Integration of Foreign Resident Call Center Numbers” with a ceremony held today (May 22) at 11:00 AM at the Busan City Hotel Conference Hall.

This launch marks the formal establishment of an inter-agency collaboration council to integrate the fragmented call center numbers for foreign residents.

• ●Participating organizations include Busan Metropolitan City, the Busan Global City Foundation, the Busan Support Center for Foreign Residents, and the Busan Foreign Workers Support Center.

• ●At the launch ceremony, the institutions signed an agreement to unify their call center numbers and jointly operate a comprehensive counseling service for foreign residents.

The “Foreign Resident Call Center Integration” initiative is a key component of the city’s broader plan to build a unified foreign resident support system. The goal is to resolve the inconvenience caused by having separate phone numbers and systems across organizations, and to offer more efficient and streamlined support services.

The city plans to build an integrated system through this collaboration by:

• ●Standardizing counseling workflows

• ●Linking counseling systems

• ●Establishing case management standards

The ultimate goal is to create a “One Number Counseling System” that allows any foreign resident to receive customized consultations on matters such as daily life, employment, and visa status through a single representative number.

The agreement includes:

• ●Unification of call center numbers

• ●Joint planning and operation of the counseling system

• ●Sharing of consultation records and case information

• ●Regular inter-agency working meetings

The working council will meet monthly to discuss practical implementation strategies and will also promote the new number, conduct pilot operations, and carry out satisfaction surveys.

Kang Kyung-bo, Director of the Population Policy Division, stated,
“This working council launch provides the foundation for faster and easier consultation services for foreign residents, regardless of language, time, or topic. We will continue to strengthen inter-agency cooperation to enhance the quality of life for foreign residents in Busan and serve as a model for efficient and inclusive local governance.”
