Bokcheon Museum to Host “Busy Busy Bokcheon Workshop – I’m a Webtoon Artist Too”

The Bokcheon Museum, affiliated with the Busan Museum, announced that it will run the educational program “Busy Busy Bokcheon Workshop – I’m a Webtoon Artist Too” (hereinafter referred to as “the program”) in conjunction with the special exchange exhibition Gaya Plus Toon, which opened on April 15.

The program will be held from May to July, every last Saturday of the month, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM.

This program was developed to align with the exhibition characteristics of Gaya Plus Toon, which showcases award-winning works from the National Gimhae Museum’s Gaya Webtoon & Illustration Contest and webtoons based on the Bokcheon Ancient Tombs, offering new stories about Gaya imagined by various artists.

During the program, participants will explore Gaya-period professions through exhibitions and educational activities, and develop their creative expression by drawing webtoons.

The program begins with viewing the Gaya Plus Toon exhibition to understand how webtoon artists have depicted Gaya culture. Then, using a PowerPoint presentation, participants will learn about the Gaya Kingdom during the Three Kingdoms Period and various relics excavated from the Bokcheon Ancient Tombs to study the professions of Gaya people at the time. Lastly, participants will become webtoon artists themselves, engaging in a creative activity that stimulates historical imagination.

The program is designed for elementary school students (grades 1–6) in Busan and their guardians. A total of 20 teams (plus 5 teams on standby) will be recruited on a first-come, first-served basis for each session. Participation is free of charge.

Meanwhile, the museum is currently hosting the Gaya Plus Toon exhibition through August 10, featuring award-winning webtoons and illustrations themed around Gaya and the Bokcheon Ancient Tombs.

○ The exhibition is divided into three sections:
– Gaya Plus Toon: features award-winning webtoons about Gaya’s history and relics.
– Gaya Plus Illust: showcases illustration works centered on the Gaya theme.
– Bokcheon Plus Toon: presents webtoons inspired by treasures excavated from the Bokcheon Ancient Tombs.

Director Seong Hyun-joo of the Bokcheon Museum stated,

“This educational program was designed to offer children a fun and creative way to understand the history and culture of Gaya through webtoons, a familiar and popular medium.
Going forward, Bokcheon Museum will continue to develop diverse educational content to establish itself as a cultural space that is more accessible to the public.”
