Busan Metropolitan City Announces Winners of the 14th Busan Civil Engineering Awards

The Mayor of Busan, Park Heong-joon, announced the selection of four recipients of the 14th Busan Civil Engineering Awards to encourage the morale and pride of local construction engineers and support the creation of safe and high-quality urban infrastructure.

First launched in 2012, the Busan Civil Engineering Awards mark their 14th anniversary this year. The winners were selected from candidates recommended by the KSCE Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Chapter, which has over 2,800 members from universities, research institutes, public agencies, and construction companies. The final decision was made through deliberation by the city's Personnel Committee.

Korean Society of Civil Engineers (Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Chapter):

• ●Established: May 18, 1968

• ●Total members: 2,868 (2,577 regular, 291 senior/student members)

• ●Activities: Operation of Civil Engineering Structure Base, Civil Engineering Convention, Technical and Academic Seminars (119 events)

The winners were recognized at an award ceremony hosted by the KSCE on the morning of May 14, coinciding with the 57th anniversary of the Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam Chapter's founding. Each awardee received a certificate of commendation.

◈ Awardees:
▲ Education & Research Category

– Prof. Kim Soo-han of Pukyong National University was honored for his significant contributions to nurturing local talent and conducting research in civil engineering.
▲ Design & Construction Category

– Mr. Kim Chang-hwan, Executive Director at Sammi Construction Co., Ltd., and Mr. Ahn Min-hong, CEO of SEUMTECH Co., Ltd., were recognized for their efforts in enhancing public safety and advancing regional construction.
▲ Construction Administration Category

– Mr. Choi Chul-ho, Director of the Busan Construction Safety Test Center, was acknowledged for his contributions to infrastructure safety management in public service.

Lim Kyung-mo, Director-General of the City-wide Innovation and Balance Office, stated,
“We believe outstanding local construction engineers, including this year’s awardees, will lead the way in establishing Busan as a global hub city. We will continue to recognize those who contribute significantly to the field, enhance their sense of purpose and pride, and build safe and efficient infrastructure systems.”
