The Busan Metropolitan City Government (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced it will hold a summer natural disaster preparedness meeting and conduct on-site inspections on May 14, chaired by Mayor Park himself.

○ Previously, the City established a dedicated preemptive response team (headed by the Vice Mayor for Administrative Affairs) and launched full-scale preparation, including department-level action plans and site inspections of disaster-prone areas, aiming to achieve zero casualties by managing five major risk types.

This meeting and inspection are scheduled just before the official summer disaster management period (May 15–October 15), with Mayor Park personally checking the City's preparedness posture.

Preparedness Meeting

The meeting will begin at 2:00 PM at the Disaster and Safety Countermeasures Headquarters on the 15th floor of City Hall.

Participants include Mayor Park, heads of relevant departments, and representatives from the Autonomous Police Committee, Busan Meteorological Administration, Nakdong River Flood Control Office, Namhae Coast Guard, Army 53rd Division, and all 16 district and county offices.

○ Each organization will present and review its final countermeasures. Based on the meeting outcomes, a comprehensive action plan for storms and heatwaves will be established and implemented until October 15.

2025 Flood and Heatwave Response Strategy

Flood Strategy:
▲ Strengthened proactive response and management systems
▲ Expansion and management of newly identified high-risk areas
▲ Focused control of the five major risk types

Heatwave Strategy:
▲ Enhanced response system for heat-related emergencies
▲ Operation of a heat illness surveillance system

Field Inspections

After the meeting, Mayor Park will inspect two locations prone to flooding:

• 1.Sumin District Stormwater Retention Facility Construction Site (Dongnae-gu)
   - At 14:55, the Mayor will visit the site to check progress and stress the importance of expediting the project to prevent future flood damage.

• 2.Oncheon 5th Bridge Reconstruction Site (Geumjeong-gu)
   - The Mayor will inspect the halted construction site for any flood risks.
   - He will also instruct the prompt removal of structures obstructing river flow and verify the operational status of safety facilities—particularly since this area sees high public use.

Mayor Park stated, “Through this preparedness meeting and field inspections, we will ensure there are no blind spots in our summer disaster response and will mobilize all administrative resources to respond comprehensively. I ask all departments and related organizations to inspect all risk factors thoroughly in advance and respond swiftly when emergencies occur—always putting citizen safety first.”
