The Busan Metropolitan City Construction Headquarters has announced that a section of Suyeong Riverside Boulevard—between Olympic Hill Intersection and Udongcheon Intersection—will undergo partial traffic control on May 21 to accommodate the slab concrete pouring for the ramp bridge connecting the Gwangan Bridge (BEXCO tollgate) to the Centum City Underpass.

* Slab: The upper deck of the bridge installed above girders, directly bearing vehicular loads. The slab will be formed through rebar placement and concrete pouring (680㎥, approx. 114 mixer trucks).

○ The steel box girders installed in December 2024 have since been fitted with safety components and formwork, with rebar now in place. The concrete slab pouring is the next step in the construction process.

* Steel Box Girder: A structural frame formed from steel plates shaped into a box, used to support the bridge deck.

The concrete pour is scheduled from 7:00 AM to 6:00 PM on May 21. One straight lane heading toward Haeundae Beach will be closed to facilitate the operation of concrete pump trucks and mixer trucks.

○ Out of the four total lanes in this section (two left-turn lanes toward Green City/Songjeong and two straight lanes toward Haeundae Beach), one straight lane toward Haeundae Beach will be closed during the concrete pouring operation.

○ Previously, various stages of the ramp construction—including foundation piling, column installation, and girder placement—required full or partial (nighttime) closures of this section of road. However, once this concrete slab pouring is complete, no further traffic control is expected until project completion.

In parallel, the Construction Headquarters has also completed the removal of the upper and lower BEXCO tollgates between March and April as part of the Gwangan Bridge smart tolling (non-stop payment) implementation. The overall “Gwangan Bridge Access Road Connection Project” is scheduled for completion by the end of this year, aiming to significantly improve traffic flow in the Centum City area.

○ Once completed, vehicles traveling from Jangsan-ro toward the Wondong Interchange (IC) will be able to directly enter the Centum City Underpass via the new ramp without passing through the Olympic or Centum City intersections.

○ Similarly, vehicles coming from Wondong IC heading toward Green City, Songjeong, or Haeundae will be able to use a flat road (underpass) to reach Udongcheon Intersection, bypassing the area near the Busan Cinema Center—helping to alleviate traffic congestion on Suyeong Riverside Boulevard and Haeundae-ro.

Director Kim Hyo-sook of the Construction Headquarters stated, “Due to the need to safely deploy pump trucks—which require a working radius of at least 12 meters—one lane closure is unavoidable. We will complete the concrete pouring safely and on schedule to minimize inconvenience to citizens.”
