Largest Dance Festival Ever with Over 30,000 Participants “2025 Busan Step Up Dance Festival” to Be Held

The Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that it will host the “2025 Busan Step Up Dance Festival” from May 16 to 18 in collaboration with the Youth Culture Promotion Association (Chairperson Son Young-shin), centered on “street dance” as a signature youth culture content.

○ This festival, now in its third year, was designed to provide performance opportunities for young artists and cultural experiences for youth and citizens. It is Busan’s leading youth culture festival.

This year’s event will be the largest to date, with KRW 38 million in total prize money. The opening ceremony will take place on May 16 at 6:30 PM, featuring a special performance by the musical team “Dream High” and a talk show with artists Seven and Choi Young-jun. Broadcaster and “Dream High” creative director Park Kyung-lim will serve as the special MC.

○ Main programs include:

• ●May 16: The inaugural “Busan Representative Auditions” to select the city’s top dancer(s)

• ●May 17: “World Street 1:1 Battle” (individual competition)

• ●May 18: “Dance Performance World Championship” (team competition)

○ Side programs include:

• ●May 17: “Junior (Pre-Youth) Street Championship”

• ●May 18: “K-POP Cover Dance Championship”

• ●“Dance Classes,” “Wannabe Talk Show,” and the newly added “Step Up Concert”

○ The “Step Up Concert” will feature special performances by Dongwoo (Infinite) on May 17 at 9:30 PM and Jinjin (ASTRO) on May 18 at 8:30 PM at the Busan Cinema Center.

The organizing committee estimates that over 30,000 people will participate in the event, including for special performances and as judges. In addition to stage programs, there will be the “Step Up Street Market,” where visitors can enjoy Busan’s street food and purchase goods from young artists and dancers.

○ Registration closed on May 11 via the official website (busanstepupfestival.com), with over 1,400 applicants, including more than 50 foreigners, confirming strong interest from both domestic and international audiences.

Meanwhile, advance promotional events were held at five major tourist spots in Busan* through the “Step Up Random Play Dance,” each drawing over 1,000 participants. Additionally, two new youth-linked competitions, “Dancers of Peace (DOP vol.6, by Content Group Yajukjang)” and “Groundy Competition (by Groundy Inc.),” were successfully held.

Director Kim Gui-ok of the Youth-Industry Cooperation Bureau stated, “We hope this event serves as a platform for young artists to connect and grow into global talents, while showcasing Busan’s cultural charm to the world. The City will continue to support youth cultural festivals so that young people can gain confidence through arts and culture and realize their dreams, walking with them as Busan evolves into a global cultural city.”
