May, the Month When Families Shine… Busan to Host “The 19th Busan Family Festival”

The Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that the “19th Busan Family Festival” will be held on May 17 at Dasom Yard in Busan Citizens Park.

• ●First launched in 2007, the festival marks its 19th edition this year, offering an opportunity for all families in Busan to celebrate Family Month. It is designed as a representative participatory event where citizens of all ages can engage in activities that promote love for family and raise awareness of family-friendly policies.

• ●Hosted by the City and organized by the Busan Healthy Family Support Center and 12 district Healthy Family and Family Centers, the event is expected to attract around 10,000 participants.

This year’s theme, “Today in May, Our Whole Family Shines!” emphasizes the value of togetherness and includes ▲Stage Events ▲Family Experience Zones ▲Family Exhibition Zones.

• ●On the main stage, performances will include a traditional Vietnamese dance by the “Dreaming Áo Dài Dance Troupe” from the Saha District Family Center and a chorus rendition of the “Hymn of Busan” by the Dong-gu Family Center's Multicultural Harmony Choir. Commendations will also be awarded to individuals for their contributions in celebration of Family Month and Couples Day.

Three themed zones—▲Equality Together ▲Care Together ▲Inclusion for All—will feature 30 family experience programs:

• ●[Equality Together Zone] will offer 10 activities like “Gender Equality Super-Stone Curling” and “Equality Arcade Basketball,” focusing on the value of equality.

• ●[Care Together Zone] includes activities such as “Our Family Puzzle: A Piece of Care” and “Pin Button Sharing: Power of Care,” highlighting the importance of caregiving.

• ●[Inclusion for All Zone] features programs like “Back in My Day (Traditional Games Experience)” and “Sound the Drum of Inclusion,” which promote respect for diversity and inclusive social values.

In the Family Exhibition, held at the Dasom Gallery within the Dasom Center, families can enjoy:

• ●A book talk by author Hwang Seon-ae, known for The Kick of the Snail Girl, under the theme “Our Family Shines.”

• ●An art exhibition titled “Our Family is Special,” showcasing family-themed artworks.

Pre-registered participants can also join special activities such as:

• ●“Our Family Robot Friend,” a hands-on activity to create a four-legged robotic pet using IoT technology.

• ●Family counseling sessions offered at the venue.

In addition to on-site events, the festival will be available online through May 25 at the official website (부산가족축제.kr).

• ●Online participants can join 12 family activities such as “Joyful Dad’s Parenting Photo Contest,” “Dear My Care Hero,” and “What Does Inclusion Mean to Our Family?”

• ●Other events include the “Chatter-Chatter Promotion Contest” (until May 16), “Our Family’s Shining Moments” to share memorable family stories, and “The Value that Makes Our Family Shine,” which encourages families to explore and express their values.
