Busan Records First Major Hometown Love Donation of 2025

The Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that the first major donor of 2025 to the Hometown Love Donation Program has emerged today, May 9.

The first high-value donor of the year is Kim Dae-geun, the newly appointed chairman of the Yeongnam Residents’ Association, originally from Busan.

He visited City Hall on May 9 to donate one million KRW to the program.

A donation ceremony was held at 14:00 in the reception room of City Hall, with Mayor Park Heong-joon and executives from the Yeongnam Residents’ Association in attendance.

As of the end of last year, the highest donation made to Busan’s Hometown Love program was 500,000 KRW.

The Yeongnam Residents’ Association is a fellowship organization made up of individuals from the Yeongnam region, including Busan, Ulsan, Gyeongnam, Daegu, and Gyeongbuk, now residing in Jeju.

The association currently has over 1,000 members and has continuously carried out scholarship programs for low-income students, as well as volunteer work for marginalized groups and the elderly living alone.

Chairman Kim Dae-geun expressed:

“With this donation, I hope to shine a bright light across my hometown, Busan, one gesture at a time.”

Mayor Park Heong-joon added:

“Busan is your hometown — the warm roots you always carry in your hearts.
I sincerely thank you for donating to the city through the Hometown Love Program.
As a fellow citizen of Busan, I am deeply grateful and reassured by your generous spirit.
To repay this kindness, we will work harder than ever to make Busan an even better city to live in.”

Meanwhile, in celebration of Family Month, the city is currently holding a “Busan Hometown Love Donation Grand Giveaway!”

The first 1,000 people who donate to Busan City Hall through the official platform will have a chance to win five luxury rewards, including stays at five-star hotels in Haeundae during peak season.

The event runs until June 30, and participation is automatic upon donating 100,000 KRW or more to “Busan City Hall” through the Hometown Love Donation Portal at ilovegohyang.go.kr.
