Busan to Host 20th Adoption Day Ceremony and Family Experience Event

The Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that the 20th Adoption Day Commemorative Ceremony and Family Experience Event will be held on May 10 at 2:00 p.m. in the Grand Conference Hall of the National Busan Science Museum.

Adoption Day, observed annually on May 11, is a legal commemorative day established under the Special Adoption Act, symbolizing the formation of a new family when one household adopts one child — in line with the meaning of Family Month (May).

Marking its 20th year, this year’s event is co-hosted by the City of Busan and the National Busan Science Museum to:

• ●Promote positive perceptions of adoption

• ●Create a unifying space for adoptive families

Under the slogan “Adoption Creates a Whole World for One Child”, the event will be attended by approximately 150 participants, including adoptive families and adoption-related institutions.

The program consists of two main parts:

Part [1] – Ceremony

▲ Commendations for three individuals who have contributed to spreading adoption culture (presented by the Mayor of Busan)

▲ Sharing of heartfelt adoption stories by adoptive families

▲ A special performance by a children’s choir composed of adopted children

Part [2] – Family Experience Program

▲ Museum exhibition tour

▲ Terrarium-making, where families can create miniature gardens in glass containers

▲ Outdoor astronomy session with seasonal constellation videos and commentary

Park Seol-yeon, Director-General of the Bureau of Women and Family Affairs, stated:

“Adoption means the whole world to one child, and the warmest world for a child is a family.
As Busan pursues a vision of becoming the No. 1 child-friendly city, we will do our best to ensure that more children are raised with love through adoption.”
