Launch of the First “Youth Gambling Prevention Week” Commemorated with a Ceremony – Network Established Among Related Agencies

The Busan Metropolitan City (Mayor Park Heong-joon) announced that on May 9 at 2:00 p.m., the “Youth Gambling Prevention Week Commemoration Event (Busan Region)” will be held at the main auditorium of the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency, along with the signing of a multi-agency cooperation agreement.

○ This event marks Youth Gambling Prevention Week (May 12–18) and aims to raise awareness of the increasing risks and severity of youth gambling and to build social consensus.

○ Over 300 participants are expected, including officials from the City, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, the Busan Metropolitan Police Agency, the City’s Youth Counseling & Welfare Center, the Out-of-School Youth Support Center, and local parents and students.

During the opening ceremony, an MOU will be signed among four institutions — the Busan Metropolitan City, Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Kim Seok-jun), Busan Metropolitan Police Agency (Commissioner Kim Su-hwan), and the Korea Center on Gambling Problems (President Shin Mi-kyung) — to promote youth protection and gambling prevention and treatment efforts in Busan.

○ The MOU aims to establish a collaborative network among the agencies to effectively implement gambling prevention and treatment programs.

○ Key areas of cooperation include:

• ●Establishing a referral system for early detection and prevention of youth gambling

• ●Joint implementation of educational and promotional initiatives

• ●Building a system for counseling, treatment, and recovery support

• ●Sharing information and collaborating on-site to monitor and improve youth environments

• ●Inaugural proclamation ceremony of the Youth Gambling Prevention Week

• ●OX quizzes and a youth talk concert

• ●A musical performance on gambling prevention

○ The proclamation ceremony will feature participating institutions declaring a shared vision and commitment to gambling prevention through a symbolic hologram touch performance.

○ The experience booths include:

Following the Busan event, the prevention week commemoration will be held in Daejeon (May 13) and Seoul (May 16) as a relay series.

○ These events are jointly organized by the Korea Center on Gambling Problems under the Prime Minister’s Office’s Gambling Industry Regulatory Commission, local governments, education offices, and police agencies.
