Busan is Sports! The 1st Busan Nakdong River Slow Triathlon Festa to Be Held

Mayor Park Heong-joon announced that the 1st Busan Nakdong River Slow Triathlon Festa (hereinafter “the Event”) will be held on May 4 at Hwamyeong Ecological Park in Buk-gu, Busan.

This event is the first triathlon to be held along the Nakdong River.

Unlike conventional time-based races, this new “slow triathlon” concept allows participants to enjoy the natural surroundings at their own pace, aiming to complete the course rather than compete.

Designed to be beginner- and family-friendly, the course follows the scenic trails along Busan’s representative ecological park, turning the event into a festival that everyone can enjoy.

The event will feature six non-competitive categories:

• ●Mini

• ●Aquathlon

• ●Duathlon

• ●Family Relay

Heo Min-ho, Korea’s first triathlete to participate in the Olympics and now a popular sports personality, will join more than 1,000 triathlon enthusiasts nationwide.

[Standard Course Overview]

• ●Swimming: 1.5 km (round trip from Hwamyeong Ecological Park’s Nakdong River Water Rescue Base – 119 unit)

• ●Cycling: 46 km (round trip to Yangsan Wondong Jin-sa)

• ●Running: 10 km (round trip to the southern end of Hwamyeong Ecological Park)

Heo Min-ho’s participation is expected to generate considerable interest from amateur athletes and sports fans alike.

The Busan Triathlon Association will also host a short-form video (vlog) contest for participants to promote the event.

Winning entries will receive cash prizes and be shared across various SNS platforms.

In addition, the city’s mascot “Boogi” will make an appearance for a selfie event and to cheer on the athletes.

No road closures are required for this event, as the course utilizes the park’s bike paths and walking trails.

A safety-first approach will be adopted, with over 200 safety personnel—including lifeguards and medical staff—deployed across the swimming, cycling, and running sections.

Son Tae-uk, Director-General of the Sports Bureau, stated,
“This event is expected to promote the Nakdong River basin as a lifestyle sports venue where people and nature coexist.

It will also expand opportunities for public participation in sports and contribute to regional promotion.”
