Busan
City will launch a campaign for promoting sustainable urban transportation for
one week from September 19 to September 23 across the city to celebrate the
annual World Car-free Day (September 22).
The
City intends to encourage public transportation in order to tackle problems
caused by driving private cars, such as air pollution, traffic congestion and
excessive energy consumption and to reduce the consumption of fossil fuels in
response to climate change. The event’s
success will rely on citizens’ voluntary participation.
To promote the event, all city workers from public agencies and private companies will be encouraged to use public transport on September 21st. Parking lots at City Hall and all public agencies will be closed temporarily as an additional encouragement for workers to use public transport on September 21st.
