Busan City and Amazon Web Services (AWS), a subsidiary of Amazon.com held an opening ceremony for the “Amazon-Busan Cloud Innovation Center” at the Centum Campus of Dongseo Academy Foundation on November 8, 2016 with participation from Suh Byung-soo, the Busan City Mayor and Teresa Carlson, Vice President of Amazon Web Services, Worldwide Public Sector.

Busan City signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AWS to establish the Amazon-Busan Cloud Innovation Center in Busan on March 8, 2016 and the innovation center broke ground in September 26 as Amazon’s first facility to be set up outside the United States.

It will help Busan realize the city’s long-term vision to grow as a smart city through the use of cloud computing technology.

The center will provide startups in Busan with office space, cloud infrastructure and cloud technology through the AWS Active program, as well as offer opportunities for overseas expansion.

AWS Cloud Training and Global Certification programs, as well as the AWS Activate program, which provides support to startup businesses, will be implemented to help grow and scale the city’s cloud-enabled economy, fostering a globally competitive workforce in Busan.

The center additionally plans to open a show room to display IoT innovative products and solutions, along with outstanding Busan-based products. Intel will join to introduce its innovative technologies as well.

AWS, jointly with Busan IT Industry Promotion Agency, will offer cloud education and startup programs at the Amazon-Busan Cloud Innovation Center.
