Residents of Korea’s largest port city of Busan have rallied behind their city’s bid to host the 2020 Summer Olympics.
In just four months, a civic support committee has collected more than a million signatures from Busan residents, showing widespread backing for hosting the games.
City officials say the fact that more than a million citizens showed their support in such a short time is remarkable, and that this will help get early government approval of the bid.
Busan will register as a candidate city for the Olympics and submit a detailed plan to the government after February.
Symposiums, seminars and cyber publicity will help set the proper atmosphere for the bid. The city also plans to confirm early government approval of its hosting bid.
