The APEC Memorial, located in the Nurimaru APEC House, opened to the public on December 31st, 2007.
The Memorial was built as part of Busan’s U-City Project to commemorate the successful hosting of the APEC Leaders’ Meeting and to benefit from the ripple effect of being a former APEC host city by attracting more tourists to the city. Visitors can experience the following:
1. An electronic visitors’ book
2. An introduction to the Nurimaru APEC House by a Ubiquitous Robotic Companion (URC) Robot
3. An exhibition of APEC souvenirs, Nurimaru miniatures etc.
4. Moments from the APEC Leaders’ Meeting demonstrated on a media board (through RFID technology)
5. A multi-language information system (Korean, English, Japanese and Chinese)
6. The twelve oriental symbols of longevity on an interactive screen
7. A promotional panel of Busan City
Nurimaru APEC House has become a recognized international meeting venue and tourist destination of Busan, attracting 4,000 to 5,000 visitors a day.
An expert advisory committee meeting last April was followed by a design competition and several advisory and working-level conferences until the completion of the memorial.
