Water-based sports available at 10 facilities

Visitors to Busan can now enjoy marine sports all year round in the nation's largest marine city, Busan.

The city this year will expand marine leisure facilities, enabling marine sports enthusiasts to enjoy yachting, sea kayaking, windsurfing, power boating, and rafting in Busan all year round.

The marine sports center, which is operated at the yacht marina in Suyeong Bay, Haeundae District, will therefore be expanded, offering citizens classes in 10 marine sports facilities. They will be located in seven beach areas and three sites near Nakdong River and Suyeong River to encourage participation among Busan citizens who wish to brush up on their marine sports skills.

The Busan Marine Sports Festival, which is held in August during the Busan Sea Festival, will feature a variety of programs.

The number of programs has been increased from five to eight. The newly added categories include triathlon, boat racing, and canoeing.

The previously existing programs are beach volleyball, marine rafting, yachting, windsurfing, and fin swimming.

The festival is expected to grow this year, as there are six games in which visitors are encouraged to participate.

Busan plans to expand the scope of the festival by also hosting the annual Nakdong River and Suyeong River Festival in October, which will be highlighted by small-boat sailing.
