Busan City has won an honor at the International Water Association’s (IWA) prestigious Project Innovation Awards, in addition to being the proud host venue of the 2012 IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition.

The Project Innovation Awards (PIA) is a prestigious global competition which recognizes and celebrates innovation and excellence in water engineering projects around the world in six different project categories - applied research, planning, design, operations/management, small projects, and marketing and communications.

Busan City won the Global Honor Award in the 'Planning' category of the 2012 IWA Global Project Innovation Awards (PIA) for its work on the ‘Ecological Restoration of Rivers in Busan Metropolitan City’ project. The ecological river restoration project has been achieved by conveying river water from the Nakdong River to the Suyeong River and Oncheoncheon Stream via an aquaduct tunnel and by using seawater to maintain water flow in the Dongcheon Stream.
The award ceremony will be held during the IWA World Water Congress and Exhibition in Busan on September 19, 2012.

The IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition is a high-profile event that attracts 7,000 water professionals, companies and institutions from across the globe. The 2012 IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition will be held from September 16-21, at the BEXCO in Busan.
