To promote cultural exchange and expansion between Busan and Taiwan, and to commemorate the 35-year anniversary of cultural exchange between the Busan Muesum and the National Museum of History in Taiwan, the Busan Museum is to host an international exchange exhibition, “Formosa: Taiwan, Life and Culture” from October 8 to December 1, 2013.
The exhibit will consist of five sections: a chronological table of Taiwan’s history, prehistoric cultures in Taiwan, a historical look at Chinese immigrants and their way of life, and aboriginal Taiwanese.
The museum will have 210 unique artifacts representing Taiwan’s rich cultural heritage and history on display, including beautiful pieces of embroidery and handicrafts from the collection of the National Museum of History in Taiwan.
A historical map of East Asia in the 18th century marking “Mer de Coree” and sculpture of the Eight Immortals will highlight the exhibition, which draws the meaning for its name from the Portuguese word “formosa,” meaning “beautiful island.”
