
Tourism and economic exchanges between Busan and Beijing are expected to increase in the coming years.
The mayor of the City of Busan, Hur Nam-sik, visited Beijing, China from September 12-13, 2013, to participate in the 2nd Council of the World Tourism Cities Federation (WTCF). Mayor Hur promoted the city's strength as a tourist destination to other world-renowned cities participating at the event.
At the founding summit of the WTCF which was held from September 14-15, 2012, in Beijing, Beijing mayor Wang Anshun proposed to organize various exchanges between the two cities. Hur’s participation at the second council of the WTCF was made in response. During his time with the council, Mayor Hur enhanced cooperation with 83 members of the World Tourism Cities from 31 different countries and successfully promoted Busan as a world class tourist destination.
A public information booth was jointly operated at the second WTCF Expo by the City of Busan and the Busan Tourism Organization. The second WTCF Expo was held from September 11-14 on Beijing’s Wangfujing Commercial Street.
After 10 years of friendly exchanges, since 2013, Busan established a friendship and cooperation city relationship with Beijing in August 2013. Beijing is Busan’s 6th friendship city, while Busan is Beijing’s first friendship city.
