Busan Metropolitan City and Gijang-gun have come to terms on an agreement with the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO) to build a Korea Baseball Museum and Korea Baseball Hall of Fame. The agreement was reached on August 29, 2013 at Busan City Hall.
To commemorate 100 years of Korea Baseball and 30 years of professional baseball in Korea, the Korean Baseball Hall of Fame is planning to be built in Dongbaek-ri, Ilgwang-myeon, Gijang-gun. The three-story building located on a 3,374 square meter area will be composed of a first floor for multi-purpose hall, library of foreign baseball player statistics, video room; a second floor for an amateur baseball center, professional baseball center and baseball lecture room; and a third floor for a hall of fame, large conference hall and roof top garden.
Korea’s unique ‘Baseball Theme Park’ will have four regular baseball fields, two Little League baseball fields, one softball field, one indoor baseball practice field and one baseball experience hall on a 196,515 square meter area around the Korean Baseball Hall of Fame. Additionally, Hyundai Motor Company has agreed to donate the four regular baseball fields required for the project.
Busan City and Gijang-gun will establish the Korean Baseball Hall of Fame and Baseball Theme Park as a ‘Mecca of Korea Baseball’. They will revive the local economy along with the nearby East Busan Tourism Complex, Shinsegae Premium Outlets, the Dongnam Institute of Radiological & Medical Sciences and Healing Forest.
