Busan International Film Festival Opening Film selected - ‘Vara: A Blessing’

The Busan International Film Festival (BIFF) Organizing Committee held a press conference on September 3 to announce this year’s official selections and event schedule.

 

The opening film of the 18th annual BIFF will be “Vara: A Blessing,” directed by Khyentse NORBU from Bhutan. Director Khyentse Norbu wrote the screenplay for VARA based on Sunil Gangopadhypay’s short story “Rakta Aar Kanna,” translated as “Blood and Tears.”

 

The closing film will be “The Dinner,” directed by Kim Dong-hyun from Republic of Korea.  This film was made with the support of BIFF’s 2011 Asian Cinema Fund (ACF).

 

The 18th annual BIFF will be held for ten days from October 3-12, 2012 in a total of seven theaters including the Busan Cinema Center, CGV Centum City and Lotte Cinema Centum City. A total of 301 films from 70 different countries have been invited to screen at the festival.

 

The films include 95 world premieres, 42 international premieres, 30 Asian Project Market (APM) projects, 17 dramatic films and 14 documentaries supported by the Asia Cinema Fund (ACF).
