Volunteers make life better in Cambodia, Vietnam, the Philippines
University students in the Busan area have conducted voluntary activities at home and abroad spreading the spirit of charity.
University cultural volunteer group of Busan Foundation for International Activities visited Ho Chi Minh City a sister city of Busan from July 22 to 31 for nine days and 10 nights to volunteer.
A group of 24 visited elementary schools and orphanages for disabled students and helped with cleaning and laundry as well as conducting cultural education activities such as taekwondo, art, music and science.
They conducted various cultural exchange activities through Busan Day events with the Ho Chi Minh City University of Social Sciences and Humanities students. The university student volunteer group also did volunteer activities at Phnom Penh from July 8 to 17.
Green Doctors medical voluntary team also visited the Ho Chi Minh City with the university volunteer group, visiting three health centers and Busan companies and treated heart diseases, high blood pressure, lung disease and anti-peptic ulcer conducting healing medicine of love. Pusan University of Foreign Studies overseas volunteer team consisted of 60 students and staff also visited Quezon City Balara, one of the poorer areas in the Philippines, for 13 days from June 28, building “houses of love.”
The team members worked more than nine hours a day. Pukyong National University’s eco-volunteer team held a welcoming ceremony on July 17 for its 54 members and conducted the “love house repair” project.
Since the eco-volunteer team launched in 2006, it visits underprivileged neighbors and social welfare facilities in Busan every year and repaired the old houses putting new wall papers, cleaning the houses, painting, organizing trees and repairing old furniture.
Korea Polytechnics DongBusan campus students and staff also organized a clear smile volunteer group and regularly visit social welfare institute in Geumjeong-gu District looking after electricity equipment and cleaning the place.
