Daedong Hwamyeong Bridge, connecting Hwamyeong-dong, Buk-gu, Busan with Daedong-myeon, Gimhae, Gyeongnam opened on July 9, 2012.
As the 7th bridge across the Nakdong River, the 1.54 kilometer Daedong Hwamyeong Bridge carries a 4-lane highway. At a total cost of 180.6 billion won, the project has been completed in 5 years and 5 months, having started in March 2007. Travel time between Hwamyeong-dong in Busan and Daedong-myeon in Gimhae by car will now be reduced by some 30 minutes compared to when traffic had to use the Nakdong River Bridge.
Daedong Hwamyeong Bridge is the largest concrete-decked cable-stayed bridge in the country. The construction methods minimized pollution to the Nakdong River and construction costs, thereby attracting a lot of attention from domestic and international engineers.
Daedong Hwamyeong Bridge is expected to become a new, highly visible attraction in Busan, rather like the famous Gwangan Bridge has.
