A submarine will disappear and chairs will float in the air.

These are just two of the illusions that 40 renowned magicians from 13 countries will present to audiences during the first Busan International Magic Festival that will run Aug. 10-15 at BEXCO in Busan.

According to a festival official, the show will put Busan at center stage of Asia's magic market. “I hope people will come with their families and enjoy the world of magic,” he said.

Among world-famous magicians appearing at the festival will be Franz Harary and card trickster Henry Evans.

Harary is renowned for cutting bodies apart and making large objects disappear. He once blew a sphinx away in Cairo, and on the festival's opening night in Busan he will attempt to make a submarine disappear.

Others performing at the festival include: Michael Ammar; Viktor Voitko; the master of comic-magic Aldo Colombini; Korea's Lee Eun-gyeul; Naoshiro Miyamoto who translated “Winter Sonata” into Japanese; and Yuji Yasuda, a Korean-Japanese magician who at one time was the director/manager of the Kim Il-sung art troupe.

During the festival magic lessons and lectures will be given. Amateurs will have an opportunity to perform.

Professional performances will be held twice daily at noon and at five o'clock. For more information go to www.hibimf.org
