This upcoming promotion is expected to increase participation of global citizens through the Familiarization Tour event, and capture the attention of global citizens by producing and uploading sensual videos online.

The global promotion is planned to take place in two portions, divided by European and Asian regions. The City of Busan is planning to maximize the publicity by executing a joint promotion with major airlines of the region that are operating direct flights to Busan, such as Lufthansa German Airlines and China Airlines.

The applications for the Familiarization Tour are gathered through Busan’s official YouTube channel (www.youtube.com/DynamicBusan) and the official Facebook page (www.facebook.com/DynamicBusan) from August 1st (Thu) to 20th (Tue). Two participants per region, a total of four participants will be selected.

Anyone who wishes to apply must watch the time lapse video “Where On Earth Is It?”, which features the scenic beauty of Busan, and submit the answer to the quiz given in the video via email (media_center@korea.kr). All applicants are required to include a cover letter, detailing overseas travel experience, online PR experience and their interest in Busan. The final winners will be selec ted based on cover letters of the applicants who submitted the correct answers.

The Familiarization Tour of Busan will be conducted in two different themes on a three-day schedule. The City plans to inform European netizens about the traditional aspects of Busan, including healing of the mind and body, and show Busan’s advanced aspects and the Korean Wave to Asian netizens. The Familiarization Tour will take place on the same dates as Busan’s major festivals, such as the Busan International Film Festival and Busan Fireworks Festival to maximize the global citizens’ interest in the City of Busan. Also, the entire tour will be captured on video, which will be edited and uploaded on YouTube in October.

The two airlines that are operating direct flights from Busan will participate in the global promotion. Lufthansa German Airlines(www.lufthansa.com), which is one of the world’s top airlines, has been operating flights from Busan to Munich since March 2007 and currently offer 6 direct flights per week. Also, China Airlines(www.china-airlines.co.kr), which is China’s largest airline based in Taiwan, plans to begin operating 6 non-stop flights (12 flights both ways) per week from Busan to Taipei on September 1st (Sun).

Mr. Cha Yong-beom, the Director of Busan Media Center, said “while previous city promotions took a unilateral approach of producing PR films and broadcasting them on TV and the Internet, the upcoming global promotion will be an up-close PR activity for reaching out and communicating with more global citizens by utilizing a participatory program called the Familiarization Tour.”
