The 4th Busan Maru International Music Festival (BMIMF), supported by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and Busan Metropolitan City and organized by the BMIMF Organizing Committee, will be held from September 2 through 7 at Busan Cultural Center, Geumjeong Cultural Center, and Busan Cinema Center. Since its inauguration in 2010, the annual classical music festival has regularly met with the approval of its audiences. About 150 musicians and performers from seven countries will participate in this year’s festival.
Prior to the main event, fringe concerts are scheduled over two weekends, on August 23, 24, 25, 30 and 31 throughout the city, including Busan City Hall, Busan Station Square, metro stations, Gamcheon Cultural Village, Busan Museum and other venues. A total of 60 performances by about 1,100 professional and amateur musicians in 59 groups nationwide will be held.
Under the theme of “Music and Theater”, music meets dramatic art at the BMIMF 2013. The musical dramas “The Pianist with 50 fingers” and “Block 15” will highlight the festival. They show that music can be a great aid to survival when our peaceful lives are threatened.
The festival aims to promote citizen participation and develop community spirit through music and to enhance the city’s status as an international marine cultural city by establishing the event as an internationally recognized music festival.
