Republic of Korea will open an APEC e-learning center in Busan in April to train education administrators and teachers from Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation forum countries in the nation's advanced e-learning system, Busan officials said on Friday (Jan. 13).

The 990 square meter APEC e-learning center will be established on the campus of Pusan National University in northern Busan, they said.

Its estimated 12.8 billion won (US$12.9 million) construction cost will be jointly shared by Busan's metropolitan city government, the state-run university and the Ministry of Education and Human Resources, the officials said.

The three parties Friday signed an MOU on the construction of the center which will offer courses on e-learning methods and programs.

Republic of Korea is recognized as one of the world's leading e-learning countries thanks to its extensive high-speed Internet infrastructure. It ranked fifth in the 2003 Economist Intelligence Unit's assessment on information technology skills and educational infrastructure.
