Grand Ferry Inc. started to sail its 11,550 ton car ferry, ‘Seco Maru’, between Busan and Moji, Japan from May 20.

The Seco Maru can carry 460 passengers and about 220 TEU containers and there are a variety of facilities onboard, including a stage, a restaurant, a duty-free shop, a public bath, a karaoke bar and a convenience store.

The Seco Maru will depart at 11 p.m. from Busan, Monday through Friday, and arrive at 7:45 a.m. the next day at Moji Port, in Japan. The crossing takes 7 hours.

A one-way 2nd class ticket departing from Busan costs 90,000 won for adults and teenagers, and 45,000 won for children aged 12 and under.

The Busan – Moji ferry service is expected to help boost regional tourism, and to increase personal and material exchanges between the two cities.

Moji Port in Kitakyushu City, located on the island of Kyushu, has many nearby tourist attractions – including Mojiko Retro Town, Kokura Castle, Beppu Hot Springs, and Mount Aso.

In particular, Kitakyushu City is the main industrial center of Kyushu, and is where Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation, Toyota and Nissan Motor Company and TOTO Mechanic are all located. Therefore, the ferry service expects to also boost the trade of industrial products such as automobiles, auto tires and cameras.

Previously, a Busan-Moji ferry service operated for two months from June, 2009 by C&Cruise Inc.
