The Busan Biennale Organizing Committee hosts the Sea Art Festival 2011 in an attempt to establish a unique marine art brand of Busan and inspire young and experimental artists. The Sea Art Festival has enjoyed popularity among the public as an environmentally friendly outdoor exhibition, which takes advantage of the sea, a natural blessing for Busan, and waterfront areas. In particular, the festival features experimental and marine elements, a characteristic which is hard to find in other exhibitions around the world.

The theme of the Sea Art Festival 2011 is ‘Songdo’, the name of the venues for the exhibition. Songdo Beach used to enjoy fame and popularity as the first beach developed in Korea. Given its historical significance, the theme Songdo is expected to allow more active interpretation of the beach, highlighting the unique nature of the sea and waterfront areas as the exhibition venue.

We are looking forward to welcoming artists from home and abroad to the art festival in Songdo Beach, Busan in the autumn of the year 2011.
