What is the New Address System?
The New Address System, which names streets and numbers buildings, became effective as of April 5, 2007. Formerly, addresses were based only on land-lot number, but this is changing to an address system based on street names giving odd numbers to buildings situated on one side of the street and even numbers to buildings situated on the other side. The new address system will make it easier to find the street.
According to the New Address System,
Both address systems will be used until the end of 2011 but as of January 1, 2012, only the new address should be used. For more information, call the Land Registration Division at 051) 888-4295, or visit the New Address System Website at http://www.juso.go.kr
From March until June, 2011, each person will be notified of their address under the New Address System, at http://www.juso.go.kr/openEngPage.do
The road name address will be notified as of July 29, 2011 and will be used as the legal address thereafter; addresses on various official record books will be changed to the road name address system by December 31, 2011.
Please refer to the attached English language notification which will be delivered along with the notification in Korean at your home by person.
