Mayor Suh Byung-soo of Busan, the 6th mayor elected by popular vote, has highlighted three core keywords for the Busan administration - the development of a city rich in employment opportunities, the realization of a safe city-wide community where citizens can live free of major worries, and urban regeneration.
Busan
aims to create about 50,000 good jobs and to strengthen local firms' R&D
abilities. For the realization of a safe community where citizens can live in
ease, the city will operate its integrated disaster management committee,
composed of public and private experts.
It
will also establish an emergency management system in line with the kind of
system functioning in advanced countries, by building a fire safety theme park,
expanding the city's emergency rescue services, and so on. Finally, in order to
achieve balanced regional development through urban regeneration, Busan will set
up 'town administration offices' in areas with high concentrations of dilapidated
dwellings, to provide emergency services and to set up a 'complex community
center' to provide comprehensive services within an urban regeneration
district.
