APEC customs officials open forum in Korea

 The Korea Customs Service (KCS) launched a workshop for customs officials from the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member countries on Monday (November 8) at its headquarters in Daejeon in South Chungcheong Province.

The World Customs Organization (WCO) is jointly sponsoring the workshop, which is running for five days. From 14 countries, including China, Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia, some 23 officials are expected to participate in the workshop, which mainly focuses on trade facilitation and custom service automation.

The workshops feature lectures from KSC officials and experts from Samsung SDA. They are to give lectures on automation of customs procedures, computerization of freight management and customs administration.

Additionally, Robert Struder, customs administration expert from WCO is scheduled to give a presentation on the major principles and techniques of trade facilitation, the revised Kyoto Protocol and risk management techniques.

The workshops also include an inspection tour of the Busan Customs Office, including a look around the harbor facilities and container inspection equipment.
