Busan City has been selected to host the World Fisheries Congress (WFC) in 2016, the world's largest fisheries industry gathering.
On May 9, at the 6th Congress in Edinburgh UK, it was announced that Busan would host the next WFC.
As the world's largest fisheries conference, the WFC aims to promote international cooperation in fisheries science, conservation and management by encouraging and promoting sustainable management practices, excellence in fisheries research and the wise use of fishery resources. It is held every 4 years, attracting about 2,000 participants from some 75 countries.
Enhancing the city's status at the conference in Edinburgh and spreading the word about its development as a leading maritime capital of Northeast Asia were crucial to Busan achieving its goal of winning the right to host the WFC in 2016.
