Chuseok Holiday Entertainment Concert on the 23rd, Dance Performance on the 25th, Traditional Theater

 

Many cultural events will be held to celebrate Chuseok such as concerts, dance performances, theater performances and many more. The Busan Philharmonic Orchestra will perform its Chuseok Concert at 7:30 on the 23rd at the Busan Cultural Center. Included in the evening performance will be western classical music as well as traditional Korean melodies. They will open with six pieces from the famous musical “The Phantom of the Opera” by Andrew Weber. The selections are all romantic and have beautiful melodies. They are ‘Think of Me’, ‘The Music of the Night’, ‘All I Ask of You’. Exciting folk songs from Gyeongsangdo province will be performed on flute and the 25-stringed Gayageum (traditional stringed instrument). Folk songs like Jindo Arirang from Honam Province will add to the amusement. The concert will close with Vivaldi’s “The Four Seasons”. For more information call 051-607-6101.

Korean dancer Seo Ji-Young’s show has also attracted attention. She has produced a special program for the disabled children of Busan Hyeseong School and Guhwa School on the 23rd. This is a free performance of Korean dances and music of the harvest. Her energetic dances to music heavily laden with percussion are sure to provide merry entertainment. The children’s play “Kongji, Pachi” will be performed outdoors on the 25th and 26th at Busan Citizens’ Center. The play is based on a traditional tale made into an exciting play for Chuseok. It is set during the Choseon Dynasty and is about a mother’s love for only her daughter, Pachi, and her mistreatment of her step-daughter, Kongji.
