New foreign school in Busan

Global-level foreign school will be built in Busan.

 

Busan City said on June 7 that it has decided to build an international foreign school, which will be 17,000 m², on a 33,000 m² site in Ilgwang-myeon, Gijang-gun, Busan and recently asked the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy for a grant of 10 billion won.

 

The city will inject a total of 30 billion won including 15 billion won from the city and 5 billion won from private capital as well as the grant, begin the design in October and construction in April, next year and open the school in January, 2009.

 

Busan international foreign school will have all the courses from kindergarten to elementary, middle and high schools.

 

The number of students has been set at 360, but it will be flexible depending on the needs and the school will be managed by a separate foundation, which will include private investors.

 

There are currently three foreign schools in Busan for children of foreigners and Koreans who have stayed for long in overseas-American school in Camp Hialeah, International School of Busan and Busan Foreign School, but Camp Hialeah will be closed in August and the other two schools are having difficulties in giving sufficient education due to lack of facilities.

 

A Busan City official explained, “International foreign school is the key infrastructure to attract foreign investments.”
