Korean Air has started offering regular flights to Sapporo, Japan, from Republic of Korea's port city of Busan, the company said Thursday.

The country's largest airline said flights will leave
Gimhae International Airport every morning on Tuesday, Wednesday and Saturday. Korean Air plans to use its 148-seat B737 short-distance passenger jets for the 135 minute flight to Sapporo, in the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido.

It said the opening of regular flights reflects growing demand by passengers to visit
Hokkaido, which is becoming a favorite tourist attraction. The island is famous for its ski resorts, golf courses and hot springs.

The airline said the same jets will leave
Sapporo just before noon on the same day, for their return flight to Gimhae.

Prior to this, people in Busan and its surrounding areas have been compelled to travel there indirectly.
