Busan Mayor Calls APEC Summit Success

Busan Mayor Hur Nam-sik has lauded his city's hosting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit as a great success.
In a news conference Monday, he said the event has paved the way for Busan to emerge as a major global city capable of hosting large-scale conventions.
Hur thanked city residents for their participation and cooperation in hosting the summit, citing their concerted efforts and pride in the preparation as the biggest achievement of APEC.
He also asked for the city's four million residents to help Busan's bid to host the 2020 Summer Olympics, and to that end, he pledged his utmost efforts to secure the 2009 general assembly of the International Olympic Committee and the 13th Olympic Congress.
On post-APEC projects, Hur said the city will seek national designation as a model city for trade and investment and support Busan's tourism and convention industry by building another large center and a tourism complex in the city's eastside.
