Busan is gaining prestige as a MICE (meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions) city as MICE specialty publications report on the merits and caliber of the local convention industry.

Busan Tourism Organization (BTO) announced on April 21 that “Busan has been covered as a special feature in China’s major 21st Century MICE magazine, and in March, Britain’s M&IT magazine along with Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post also covered Busan.”

The South China Morning Post is Hong Kong’s major daily newspaper founded in 1903, and the April issue of paper’s magazine introduced BEXCO, luxury hotels and other MICE facilities and tourist destinations of Busan. Jang Tae-sun, chief director of BTO’s MICE division, discussed Busan’s major MICE events and overseas marketing plans. In the March issue of M&IT, the magazine reported, “As the second-biggest city in Korea, Busan is emerging as a strong challenger in the international convention industry.”

The magazine further noted that Busan attracted more than 50,000 participants in international events to the city last year and introduced premier tourist attractions such as Dongnae Eupseong (fortress), Jagalchi Market, and Songjeong and Haeundae Beaches.

According to the BTO, M&IT is an influential magazine whose advertisement price is 35 million won ($33,667) for the back cover.
