Haeundae Sand Festival

From June 6- 9, Haeundae Beach will host the annual Haeundae Sand Festival, Korea’s one and only festival based on the sand. The theme of this year’s festival is “Through the Sand Jungle,” and sand artists from the United States, Canada, Singapore and the Netherlands will create a sand jungle of various animals, trees and other jungle images on Haeundae Beach.

A sand theater will showcase short films, documentaries and sand animation free of charge. The large sand hill, which will be 10 meters (33 feet) high, will allow visitors to ride sand boards and sand sleighs. The sand exploration hall, composed of seven themed rooms, will offer sand animation, drawing sand pictures and other family oriented experiences.

A sand labyrinth will be created so visitors can take part in a treasure hunt. Teams of four to seven people can create a sand sculpture in the “I’m a Sand Sculptor” program. For more information visit (www.sandfestival.co.kr.)

Centum Beer Festival

Centum City, dubbed the “Manhattan of Korea,” will be the venue for a beer festival bound to provide a breath of coolness in a forest of skyscrapers.

From June 12-29, the Centum Beer Festival will be held at the KNN Square. Visitors pay 8,000 won ($7.80) and can enjoy an unlimited amount of draft beer.

There will be a variety of side snacks, as well as live acoustic guitar performances, film screenings and sports broadcasts. Last year, the beer festival drew 30,000 people. This year’s event promises to have more diverse events.
