Haeundae-gu is carrying forward the project to make Korean name for marriage migrants and foreign residents.

The project aims to help multicultural families and foreign residents living here adjust well to Korean society.

The 150 names in Korean such as ‘Gyeo-rae, Go-un, Na-rae, and Nu-ri’ have been selected by language experts.

The district will introduce the project to attendees of Korean language classes for foreigners at the Jung 1-dong Community Service Center, and will also promote it to foreigners who visit their district office or community service center.  In addition, foreigners who would like to have a Korean name can receive one at the Multicultural Family Support Center.

The number of foreigners living in Republic of Korea now exceeds 1.2 million, including 200,000 members of multicultural families. Currently there are 2,700 foreigners residing in Haeundae-gu District.

Through this project, Haeundae-gu District hopes marriage migrants and foreign residents will feel a stronger sense of belonging and closeness in Korean society.
