Busan city plans to put a robot produced by ROBOTECH, a Busan-based company, in the APEC Memorial, which will be set up in the Nurimaru APEC House on Dongbaek Island, the city’s representative tourist site. The robot will provide visitors with general information and tour guidance of the Nurimaru APEC House and a variety of services and entertainments.

This Ubiquitous Robotic Companion (URC) Robot pilot project, financed by 70 and 30 percent of national and city governments respectively, will begin on August 16 in the presence of officials from BEXCO, Daejeon city, Chungcheongbuk-do, Seongnam city, Incheon Free Economic Zone Authority and relevant companies at the 14th floor National Information Society Agency in Seoul. The APEC Memorial is scheduled to open in October 2007, and during two months from November to December the robot will be tested before it starts full operation in 2008.

The URC Robot is a companion-like robot which uses ubiquitous computing technologies. The robot and its core technologies employed in the APEC memorial, Chungcheongbuk provincial office, and Seongnam city hall will be provided by ROBOTECH.

General information of Nurimaru APEC House and tour guidance of the APEC Memorial will be offered in various languages (Korean, English, Japanese, and Chinese) to domestic and foreign visitors. Photo-taking and e-mailing services, weather forecasts, a quiz game, travel and tourism information, and a UCC video production service are options visitors can choose.
